  • To minimize distraction and allow me to do my job effectively only bring people who are going to be photographed to the photo session. Other cameras are not allowed unless previously discussed.

How to Get ready for my Photoshoot:

  • Avoid excess sodium three days before the shoot so you don’t retain water and look puffy.
  • Practice posing in front of a mirror. This will help you feel more relaxed and confident once you’re in front of the camera. Try different angles and smiles. Use a combination of a wall mirror and a hand mirror so you can see the various poses.
  • Make a checklist and then gather the items you’ll need to take with you such as clothing, makeup, hairbrush, jewelry, water, and snacks, and pack them the night before the shoot. You don’t want to be scrambling the day of the shoot. Stress can add unwanted lines to your face and harden your features.
  • Get a good night’s sleep. Don’t drink alcohol or take any medication that will inhibit your sleep. And don’t stay up late. You want your face to look as fresh as possible, and your attitude to be bright and positive.
  • Be sure to take care of all hair removal prior to a shoot, but leave at least 2-3 days between when you wax/shave any sensitive areas (such as your bikini line) and your shoot date. This time is necessary to allow for any irritation to disappear before your shoot.
  • Take care of your nails. Be sure that your nails are neat and well maintained. Short nails are preferred. A natural, non-colored, or French manicure look is preferable. If you plan on posing barefoot, be sure your feet and toes are in good condition.

What to Wear:

  • This one is easy.  Wear what is you.  I don't expect you to wear your Sunday best (unless that is the look you are going for.)
  • For couples, you don't have to match outfits, but please don't wear colors that will clash.  Matching colors are always nice.
  • Avoid wearing large or bold patterns or logos on your clothing.
  • It is always advisable if you want to look a little slimmer, to wear black clothing that is neither too tight nor too baggy; you don’t want to look like you are wearing a banana skin or a tent. Also, if the photo shoot is not for modelling, then it is not advised for you to wear shorts or skirts that are too short as they limit movement and flexibility that could lead to rigid photos.
  • Apart from the clothing, it is advisable that you bring a hair brush, some hairspray, if you use it and some light powder to touch up any shiny parts of your face during the shoot.
  • For most of my shoots, we do move quite a bit.  So wear comfortable walking shoes.  Then once a location is reached, change into the shoes you want for the outfit.

Finally, Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do pick clothes that you are comfortable in.
  • Do try on ALL the clothes before coming to a photo shoot.  Nothing like finding out something doesn’t fit at the shoot.
  • Do remember to coordinate your nail color (both hands and toes if you will be wearing open toe shoes or if you will be barefoot). Also, remember that your nails should have a fresh coat, that chips will show in the pictures.
  • Do remember that you want contrast.
  • Do have a bright light on when picking out clothes for the photo shoot.
  • Don’t worry about bringing too many clothes, as long as you bring a variety.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t like something, you can always go onto the next wardrobe.
  • Don’t forget to hydrate the day before and the day of the shoot.
  • Don’t bring clothes with busy patterns on them.

And remember, photo shoots are fun!  It's a chance for you to express yourself!  So relax, enjoy yourselves!
